Hey everyone,
I hope you're all having a great week. Our week was a little slow. I was pretty sick starting on Tuesday and I am just now getting over it. It is all good though. Things will be much better this week I am sure. The mission doc said that I just had some weird virus and that I needed to give it a couple days to get over it.
This week has been pretty interesting. They moved us into a new house in Lake LA. Tuesday we packed up and moved everything over to the English Elder's old house. After we were done cleaning and moving everything over, we had a really good lesson with Dulce about the Atonement. Dulce is doing well. She told us that her husband wasn't sure about her meeting with us, but she says that she wants to keep meeting with us regardless. We have only met her husband once, so we are going to try to talk with him a little bit so that he can be more comfortable with us meeting with his family. Victor is doing great as well. We had a good lesson with him on tithing as well. He had some questions at first, but he understood it really well by the end of the lesson. He is so willing to learn. We really love teaching him about the gospel.
We also visited the Ruiz family this week. I don't know if I have talked about them yet, but they are awesome. They are one of my favorite families I have met on my mission. They are members of the ward and they feed us every Tuesday. They are super sweet and so funny. Living there is a husband and wife, their four sons, and the husband's grandma. The grandma is one of the sweetest little old ladies I have met. Everyone in the house calls her "cholita", which means "little gangster". She is so sweet to us and always calls us to ask us if we want to come over for dinner with them. Well she is sick and really weak, so she hasn't been able to come to church in years. She has a really strong testimony of the Gospel, she just hasn't been able to come out to church. Her son, Hermano Ruiz, also hasn't come to church in a long time. Most Sundays he works or is with his friends, so he hasn't been to church in years either. Well we visit that family a lot and we always invite them to church and this week they came! It was great to see Hermano Ruiz come to church with his family, with the little cholita on his arm. The branch gave them a big welcome back and it was a great Sunday. I really hope that they can keep coming.
DJ got some hard news this week. He is the 21 year old Lake LA member getting ready for his mission. The doctor just told him that he needs to lose 50 pounds in order to go on a mission. At first he was pretty upset about the news, but now he is super determined to lose the weight. DJ's family is all going on a diet with him and he is getting up early to do workouts with us every morning. We are going to be having a weekly weigh in at our house once a week and DJ is already on track. He has already lost five pounds. One way or another, this kid is going to go on a mission and we are going to try to help him any way we can. I am proud of his commitment. He will be a great missionary.
Well, I hope you guys have a great week. I miss you all, take good care.
Much Love,
Elder Chad Thompson
