Hey everyone,
I hope y'all had a good Easter! This week was a good one. So last Monday, on P-Day, Elder Bennett, our two room mates and I had a goodbye barbecue which was amazingly good. For a bunch of young guys, we made a pretty sweet Mexican dinner. Then Tuesday was transfer meeting and I was so nervous... about a hundred missionaries were there waiting for either a new companion or to find out where they were going. It turns out that Elder Bennett is going to Palmdale and I am getting Elder Ruelas as my next companion and trainer. He just finished being the Zone Leader and now he will be District Leader in my District. He is a really cool guy. Elder Ruelas is my first Mexican companion and is from Iowa. He is so funny and he works hard all the time, so we have been doing pretty well together.
On Wednesday, we went to Lost Hills. Have I mentioned that I love Lost Hills? There are some amazing people there. We went to our appointment with Beatrice. She is a such a cool lady. We had a great lesson with her and then we invited her to be baptized. She started to cry and she said that she really wanted to, but there were a lot of things she felt were holding her back. We had a really long talk with her. It turns out her real name is Marta. She is going through a lot of terrible and hard things in her life right now. It was actually really sad to hear about her struggles. We talked with her for a long time and tried to help her. There is a really good scripture that we used to help her understand that Christ has gone through every single thing we have or will ever go through. It is in Alma 7:11 and it says "And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and sicknesses of his people." It really helps to know that Christ knows exactly what we are going through. He felt everything, every pain, affliction, temptation, and sickness of every kind. It was really cool to share that with Marta. We care for her a lot and I hope we helped her. I am looking forward to seeing her again on Wednesday.
Easter was really great. We had dinner at the Slades, who are an awesome family. They happened to make American food for our Easter dinner, which was so cool. I love all of the Mexican food, but it was so nice to have food that I would normally have back home on Easter. Well, I better get going, we have to go to Bakersfield today. I hope everyone is doing well. I hear Michigan is getting warmer little by little. I hope it stays that way...
I love you all and hope that you have a great week.
Much Love,
Elder Chad Thompson
