Hi,
This has been a really great week, so much has happened. Just like last week, I don't have much time, but I'll do my best to get everything in. So, the first few days of the week were alright. We got to teach some lessons, but not much other than that. On Wednesday, we were out knockin' doors and doing what missionaries do, but we weren't having much success. Later that night, we were eating dinner at Carl's Junior with the other two Elders we live with. I was a little bummed because the day didn't go as good as we planned. So we were eating, and this Latino lady walked up to us and started talking to us. She only spoke Spanish and I listened, but didn't catch everything she told us. She said that she had lived in Utah and was talking to the missionaries and wanted to be baptized, but then she moved to Lost Hills. She wanted to keep learning from the missionaries, but she could never find them or the church. Lost Hills is technically our area, but it is a tiny little town and it is thirty minutes away so we hardly ever go... But yeah, we will definitely be making a trip out there next week.
On Thursday I went on another exchange to McFarland. Since Elder Bennett is District Leader, we have to do exchanges a lot so that he can see how the other missionaries are doing. McFarland is cool, but even smaller than Wasco and Shafter. It was a really great day. We were knocking doors and we knocked on this one lady's house who was awesome. She was so kind and invited us to eat dinner with her family. Then, she took us to her daughter's house where she was having a Bible study. So we got to talk to a group of fifteen kids about The Bible and Jesus. It was so great. It was a really cool experience.
On Friday, we had ZTM which is where we meet with our Zone once a month. While we were there, they announced that our mission will be having an Apostle visit during the first week of June! That is going to be amazing. They didn't say who, but they said we will be excited about who is coming. This weekend we had general conference, which was awesome. It is where all of the Apostles and other leaders of the church meet and give talks. It only happens once every six months, and it is really amazing. I really liked all of the talks, but my favorite was probably the talk given by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on Sunday morning. The talk was on gratitude and it was really good. I would definitely say that it is worth looking up and watching. He told the story of Job from The Bible. Job was a really good man who had everything taken from him. His family was killed and he lost everything. Through it all, he gave thanks to the Lord. This week, I'm going to study the book of Job a little more. I enjoyed that talk and I really love Job's example. There will be hard times in life, but there will always be things that I should be thanking my Father in Heaven for. I know that when I am grateful, I am happy.
Anyways, I've got to go soon. I miss you all a ton, but I'm diggin' it out here in Cali! I hope you all have a great week.
Much Love,
Elder Chad Thompson
