Hi,
Bakersfield is pretty awesome. You meet the most awesome types of people. I always think that I have met every type of person there is and then I meet someone unlike anyone I have ever met in my life! Its pretty sweet. Friday we went on exchanges. I was with Elder Bean, our District Leader, in his area. We met some of the coolest people ever. There was this one lady we saw driving down the road and when she looked over at us she waved us down. So we pulled over to talk to her and she was like, "Y'all the Mormons?!" To which we replied, "Yup." And she was like, "Well I am Christian and I don't appreciate y'all shoving your religion in my face!" haha It was funny because all that we had said to her was, "yup". But it was cool because we got to explain to her that we believed in Jesus Christ and that we were Christian. And she said, "What?! I heard that y'all were a part of some clan." So we explained to her that we were not. But it was awesome because we just had a long conversation with her about what we believe and she realized that we believed a lot of the same things that she did and we set up an appointment with her. I love all of these people here in Bakersfield. They definitely keep me on my toes.
The rest of the week was alright. Mario is doing good, he wants to be baptized so badly. He is still living with his girlfriend Yasira, so we are waiting on them to get married. Mario wants to get married as soon as possible. We were over at their house yesterday for a lesson and it was sad, because they are both going through a lot. They both had kids before they met, but they haven't had custody of their kids. Yasira just got custody back, but Mario is still waiting to see his son. He financially supports his son, but he hasn't been able to see him in a while. It was really sad to see him break down a little bit about not being able to see his son. He will be able to see him soon he thinks. I felt bad for the guy. He has made a ton of progress in his life in the past few years. I know that when he gets to see his son, that little boy will have a really awesome Dad. Right now we are just hoping that everything between the two of them and Mario's son can be worked out soon. They are good people who are trying really hard.
The rest of the week was pretty good, we did some finding and met some cool people. It has been pretty fun as usual. Bakersfield never gets too boring. Every day is a new adventure. Well, I hope you all have a great week. Miss ya!
Much Love,
Elder Chad Thompson
