Hi everyone,
So it looks like I am staying for round three in Lake Los Angeles with Elder Dee! This is the longest amount of time I have ever served with a companion, but it is all good because Elder Dee is awesome. I am looking forward to serving another six weeks with him. At the end of the six weeks Elder Dee will finish his mission, and I will miss him. We are a little bummed because both of the other Elders we live with, Elder Iguasnia and Elder Sawyer, are leaving. It has been a lot of fun living and serving in the same branch with them for the past three months. They aren't being replaced, so it will just be Elder Dee and me. It is going to be weird having that big house all to ourselves. The house will be a lot more quiet and they will be missed. Since they won't be replaced, we are taking over the parts of Lake LA that they covered, so our area more than doubled! We are excited about that because it felt like we were going to run out of doors to knock pretty soon. We are also going to get their car, which will be really nice. We are going to stay on our bikes most of the time, because Elder Dee and I have gotten used to working on bikes and it's a lot easier to stop off and talk to people on the street. We are excited for this next transfer and I am so glad I get to stay!
The rest of the week went pretty well. We had our lesson with Manny. I was kind of nervous because this week we were going to talk to Manny about the Law of Chastity, but it ended up going fine. It was actually pretty funny. When we brought it up Manny said, "Oh I know about that, my sister gives me an hour long lecture about it every week." haha I was glad he already knew the jist of what we were wanting to talk about. On Sunday Manny came to church too. We were sitting in one of the classes and he said, "Have you ever felt just really, really happy? That's how I feel now." I know exactly what he is talking about because the gospel has brought so much happiness into my life. It was so great to hear him say that and I am so happy I get at least six more weeks to work with Manny. We also met with Miguel this week. He is doing really well. He lives with his daughter, who has five kids. She was home the last time we went over, so we invited her to be a part of the lesson. She talked with us and is really nice. She seems maybe even more interested than Miguel! She talked about how she is raising five kids without a husband and really just wants to find what is best for them. We are going to work really hard to get her some good fellowship so that she can come to church and feel welcome.
We have also been working with a member from the English Ward, DJ Vasquez. He is one my favorite people I have met on my mission. He is just hilarious. He says the funniest things. He has been getting ready for a mission for a while, but it has been kind of a long road for him. He has had a lot of difficult things going on in his life, but he keeps on truckin'. Two weeks ago he finally got his mission papers turned in and we are all so excited for him to get his call. That is another reason I am happy to stay. I am pumped I will be able to see him open up his mission call.
Well, I hope you all have a great week! We are heading to Lancaster today to say goodbye to some other members of the District who are leaving. I hope you all had a good Super Bowl Sunday. Take good care!
Much Love,
Elder Chad Thompson
